CRUCI PROJECT

On February 18, 2015, an event on the campus of Northwestern College called the Day of Learning in Community (DLC) will take place. This annual event is a kind of campus–wide mini–symposium on a specified topic. The topic of the 2015 DLC, entitled "The Art of Courage", is the arts in general and the courage required for genuine artistic expression in particular.

Following a morning address by a guest keynote speaker, the NWC campus will turn into an arts colony during the afternoon, with many opportunities to engage in art. The "Cruci Project" is one such opportunity.

PROJECT DETAILS

The "Cruci Project" will be a mini–concert of short newly written compositions with poetry read between the pieces. Both newly written music compositions and poetry will be based on a set of three prints (images below) by Eric Robinson. These three prints (owned by Northwestern) originally came from a larger collection entitled "Cruci".

Selected composers invited to participate must adhere to the following guidelines:
1) Compositions must not exceed 3 minutes in length.
2) The ensemble instrumentation is flute, alto sax, and cello.
3) Compositions must be based on the artwork below.
4) Compositions must be completed by January 12, 2015. Score and parts (PDF or Finale format) should be sent to lukedahn@gmail.com.

There is the possibility of an additional performance on February 6, 2015 at a NWC Music Department concert of new music.
